Northfield Resource Centre

Statement of Purpose

We will work with each person together with their families, carers and friends to encourage health, well being and independence and give support to help people live full and happy lives as members of their community.

Valuing People

Based upon the Government's Valuing People White Paper, these objectives embrace the basic principles of the Act; rights, independence, choice and inclusion. We aim to provide all those accessing our Day Service with a ‘Better Day Plan’ which will enable people who use the service to become more independent and autonomous, by supporting them to take control of their lives.

Location

Northfields Day Resource Centre is situated in the North of the City just off Hollinwood Road, New Moston, which is one of the main arterial roads between the City of Manchester and Oldham and is about seven miles from the City Centre.

The building consists of

Ground Floor - dining room, main lounge, physiotherapy room, sensory room, art room, 4 large activity rooms, offices and a kitchen. On the first floor there are offices a computer room, meeting room and various activity rooms and meeting room. Up to 70 people are supported to attend Northfield each day. We have very pleasant outdoor grounds. We have two car parking areas and an allotment with opportunities to take part in horticultural activities.

External Activities

People who use the service are offered wide and varied activites such as; communication, art & craft, keep fit & dance, cookery & food tasting, sensory Room, flower arranging, music group by an external provider, regular coffee afternoons, Jabadao, relaxation & massage & gardening and a memories group, wheel for all, swimming, gym, walking groups etc.

Activities

People are supported to access the community in a vast number of activities e.g. college courses, ten-pin bowling, line dancing, rebound therapy, hydrotherapy, day and library trips, visits to local shops and markets, snoozelin, swimming and gym sessions at various leisure centres, visit to the local pubs, snooker and pool etc.

The Functions of Northfield Day Centre

How to access day services : a person requiring a day service will go to the Community Learning Disability Team and a Care Manager will be allocated to the individual. A full community care assessment will take place before a day centre is identified.
