Darren Chadwick

Darren chadwickDarren is a psychology graduate and completed his doctorate in psychology in 2002. He has worked at the Manchester Metropolitan University for the MLDP since September 1999. Originally Darren's role was to facilitate and carry out research to strengthen the evidence base for the Speech and Language Therapists working in the MLDP. But since March 2003 this role has widened to incorporate facilitation of research by all of the practitioner groups in the MLDP.

Darren has been involved in a number of projects, these include: dysphagia in adults with learning disabilities; the relationship between challenging behaviour and receptive communication; caregiver receptiveness and attitudes to training in the use of sign language; and access to dental care. A number of papers have been published from these projects and findings have been presented at a number of international conferences.

Darren has a particular interest in continuing to investigate communication, health and quality of life among adults with learning disabilities and would be happy to hear from anyone currently conducting research in these areas.
