Melanie Chapman

Melanie ChapmanMelanie has worked as a researcher since 1995. A psychology graduate with a Masters in Research (Health & Community), she has experience of using a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods in both academic and service settings.

Melanie has been employed at MLDP since December 1999. Her role surrounds supporting practitioners to carry out research projects and evaluate practice. Some of the findings from these have been published in journals (for example, prevalence of ASD, use of psychotropic medication, Fighting Fit, Goal Attainment Scaling). Melanie also carries out projects: recent projects include evaluations of Fair Access to Care Services and long term outcomes for people who were resettled into the community from institutions. She is currently working on a research project about staff experience of change during resettlement.

Melanie has a particular interest in the participation of people who are learning disabled in research. She has been working with John Cookney on a project looking at holidays for people who are learning disabled and with Janet Flood to develop a research proposal around diabetes. She is doing a PhD by Publication at Manchester Metropolitan University about researching with practitioners and people who are learning disabled.
